Art is the conveyance of intangible ideas and emotions through a tangible medium. That which communicates is art. If I show you a photograph of a tree then it is just a photograph; but, if I show you a photograph of a tree which makes you feel happy or melancholy - that's 'art.' It is this added value of mood or story telling which makes a photograph 'artistic.'
